I recently discovered that one of my favorite singers, Jason Mraz, is a raw vegan. Mraz just won twice at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. He took home trophies for both "Best Male Pop Vocal Performance" for "Make It Mine," and "Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals" with Colbie Caillat, for "Lucky." Both tracks are featured on 2008's RIAA platinum-certified "WE SING. WE DANCE. WE STEAL THINGS."
Sure he is cute and talented, but there is something more interesting to him beyond his buoyant and youthful exterior. Perhaps he gets all that energy from his raw food diet. He used to frequent McDonalds but now he is a raw vegan who packs along a Vitamix and superfoods.
Jason got started on raw because of his bandmate Toca Rivera. They started the diet together when Rivera discovered he had diabetes. Mraz also mentions his lifestyle on his myspace blog. “Some bands could hit the bottle before taking the stage. But thanks to Tricia, our team hit rich smoothies, elixirs and tonics. She was always one step ahead of us and with her a wealth of knowledge and supply. When you needed it the most, there would be Tricia with a shot of Wild Blue Green Algae, a Nori Wrap, or some Raw Coconut Cream Pie.“
